Floor Preparation

The key to a perfect floor is in the preparation.

Floor Preparation for Any Commercial Surface

Removing any type of floor covering can be a difficult process but there are several methods available to making the job easier. Working out which method is suitable for your project depends on the size of the project and your time frame. We can assist with this process!

As with most projects the key to a perfect finish floor is the preparation. The floor should be free from any contamination that may affect adhesion between new floor covering and original subfloor, the correct surface conditions need to be dry, smooth and secure.

This includes removing existing tiles, glue and bedding, carpet, vinyl or timber. We can assist with concrete grinding and levelling, apply water-proof membranes or perform any other kind of preparation work required.

Why is it important?

Floor preparation is a critical step in installing commercial flooring because it sets the foundation for the entire flooring system. If the subfloor is not properly prepared, the final flooring product may not perform as expected, and problems may arise that could be expensive and time-consuming to fix.

So why is it so important to get it right the first time?

Leveling: Commercial flooring requires a flat, level surface to ensure a smooth and even installation. Any dips, bumps, or uneven areas in the subfloor can cause the final flooring product to buckle or warp over time, leading to safety hazards and costly repairs.

Adhesion: Many commercial flooring materials require a strong adhesive to bond properly to the subfloor. If the subfloor is not properly cleaned and prepared, the adhesive may not adhere properly, resulting in gaps or bubbles in the flooring.

Moisture control: Moisture can cause many types of commercial flooring materials to warp or even fail entirely. Proper floor preparation includes moisture testing and treatment to ensure that the subfloor is dry and free of any moisture-related issues.

Durability: A properly prepared subfloor can extend the life of the final flooring product. By addressing any issues with the subfloor before installation, you can ensure that the flooring system will be able to withstand heavy foot traffic, rolling loads, and other stresses that commercial spaces often experience.
